GRAND FUNK RAILROAD

The American Band

Reviews from Auburn Hills

March 22 , 2001

Doug Pullen of The Flint Journal…

If that's a hint of what the self-proclaimed "American Band" can do, count me in.

J. R. of MI…

The AMERICAN BAND is BACK. The guys are HAPPY, smiling, ENERGETIC, and GEEKED, you can see it ALL OVER the stage…

BRUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!! is FOR REAL. Jaws dropped open (mine included) as he began to let it go, lick after lick after lick…

…a whole NEW BAND, that kicked their proverbial asses up between their ears. HARD.

Don put on another CLINIC last nite, in percussion, technique, dynamics and SHOWMANSHIP SUPREME.

MEL IS WHOMPIN' THE $#!^ outta everyone there. He's SMILIN', he's WALKIN' THE STAGE, he's UP FRONT…

NEVER, in all the years that I've gone to shows at The Palace, have I seen sooooo many HAPPY FACES, and heard such HOARSNESS upon exiting the place. We all sat in awe, and witnessed the BIRTH of the next incarnation of GRAND FUNK that the world is about to go nutz over.

if you have ANY DOUBTS WHATSOEVER that this band is NOT what I say it is, go buy your tickets and see them when they come around. If you don't think that this band, in its present form, is FOR REAL- that these guys won't just KNOCK YOU OUT...ask ANYONE who was there tonite...

I, and TEN THOUSAND of my closest friends tonite, say so. Believe it.

Jerry from OH…

Grand Funk Railroad was absolutely GREAT !!!!!

John from MI…

These five men had an entire stadium full of people on their feet, clapping, cheering, and having an overall FUNKIN' GREAT TIME!

For all of the non-believers, do yourself a favor, see a show.

Rick from NV…

Max…has tremendous range and man can he play the Keys. He is one hell of a talent.

Absolutely the best version of Heartbreaker I have ever heard.

Bruce…this GUY is DA BOMB. He just rips up Inside Looking Out.

Tim…he is a one man band, he really adds so tremendous effect to the music.

Don was steam Rollin, he beat those drums, he was moving so fast he looked like a blur. The TUNC Drum solo just ripped, it was supersonic.

…there is no doubt Mel is the GOD of Bass Playing…MEL RUMBLED the PALACE. You should have felt the POWER…

TALK ABOUT THE PERFECT PERFORMANCE, THIS WAS IT. GFR RULED THE PALACE.

Jim from MS…

Max is a VIRTUOSO on the piano.

Inside Looking out! What can I say?? Bruce is DA MAN!! He was shredding that thing like you wouldn't BELIEVE!! After his solo was over, we were all "high fiveing" each other. It was INCREDIBLE!!!!!

I'm with everybody on Bruce! WHY HAS THIS GUY NOT BEEN RECOGNIZED????? He is flat out INCREDIBLE!!!

Craig from MI…

When we saw them up in Traverse City, it was the BEST concert I had ever been to. I was curious how they would compare here playing to a MUCH bigger and a more expectant rock-n-roll crowd. No worries! Sure, TC still stands as a GREAT concert but The Palace was head and shoulders above.

This is the first concert where I NEVER SAT DOWN. There was too much energy.

He (Mel) was on fire!

Tim…It's pretty clear that he's having a blast with this group.

THANKS DON, MEL, MAX, BRUCE AND TIM for leaving nothing on stage…

Ralph from MS…

I said the Saturday show at Traverse City was the best concert I've ever been to, NO LONGER!!!!!!! I've run out of superlatives to describe what they do on stage.

There were 10,000+ fans on their feet, singing, dancing and just plain screaming. It was awesome. Go see them…

John from MS…

These guys grabbed Detroit and got there attention Last Night.

ISLO was incredible Bruce just kills this tune!! Bruce is just a great player period…

I really like Max's stage presence and his Voice is so easy to hear, that's the only way I can describe it. His range is wide and he can get rough as well as smooth.

Tim is Fun, he looks like he's having a great time. He's doing some really cool stuff over there.

Don is belting out those songs and Kicking ASS like there’s No tomorrow!

Mel is like I've never seen him. Simply awesome…

So much Talent in this band.
